DHAULAGIRI Expedition
Its name is derived from Sanskrit;
dhavala means 'white’ and giri is 'mountain' that means it’s
name is White Mountain in real meaning. It is also popular
peak above 8000m peaks climbing in Nepal. It was virgin peak
but The French expedition in 1950 had permission to climb
either Annapurna or Dhulagiri but decided on Annapurna after
a reconnaissance of Dhulagiri. A Swiss party failed in 1953,
as did an Argentinean group finally in 1954. After four more
expeditions had failed, eight members of a Swiss expedition
reached the summit in 1960. Then on many expedition groups
are success to touch the Dhaulagiri’s altitude. Normally,
four camps will be set up for climbing Dhaulagiri. Advance
base camp will be set up at 5,300m. Which is used for depositing
the stuff and not as camping due to avalanche danger. Then
camp I will be set up at 5,900m; Camp II will be fixed at
6,400m, Camp III at 7,200m. Then we climb towards the East
Ridge. When we get over the ridge, we will have to be very
careful climbing over the ridge and probably, we will have
to face strong wind while climbing and arrive at Camp IV,
at 7,500m. The climbing of this section is considered the
most difficult in the expedition. Then we will push the summit
and return to Camp III if successes as we planed. If we couldn’t
then we have to set another camp and summit and return to
camp III.
