Langtang Region
North of Kathmandu valley lays Ganesh
Himal and Langtang Lirung. Langtang is a narrow valley sandwiched
between snowy peaks to the South and the main Himalayan range
along the northern Tibetan border Helambu, Langtang and Gosaikuanda
trek is one of the most beautiful trekking in Nepal. From
this valley we can see panoramic views of Mt. Langtang Lirung
(7246m), Ganchhenpo (6388m), and Dorje lakpa (6990m). This
high and isolated region is mostly inhabited by the Tamang
and Sherpa castes whose religious practice, language, and
traditional dress are very similar to Tibetan culture. A trek
to Langtang is an opportunity to explore the typical Tamang
villages, climb small peaks, and view majestic glaciers and
ancient Buddhist monasteries. The Helambu villages, over the
holy Gosainkunda lakes and Laurebenayak pass, are the home
of the Sherpas of Nepal. Their slate and single-roofed villages,
that dot the terraced hillsides, present very fine trekking.
The region of Langtang and Helambu although easily approached
from Kathmandu is far less trekked than the Annapurna or Everest
areas making it all the more attractive.
Helambu area can found Sherpa but different
than Everest Trek. They are known as helumbu Sherpa that have
a different culture and languages. Also from this area you
can see nice views of many mountains with different types
of flora and fauna.
