Helambu Trekking
North
of Kathmandu valley lays Ganesh Himal and Langtang Lirung.
This is the description of a seven-day trek that makes a circuit
of the Helambu region. Helambu is popular among the trekkers
for its scenic grandeur & pleasant & favorable climate,
located about 72 kilometers northeast of Kathmandu, is extending
from north of Taramarang to the tree limit of the Gosainkunda
Lake and lower slopes of Jugal Himal. Here the rare red pandas
lurk in dense lichen-draped rhododendron thickets, heard of
blue sheep graze the alpine meadows and lammergeyers glide
over glaciated valleys amidst scenery of lofty Himalayan peaks.
Start from: Sundarijal
by bus/car from Katmandu.
Cultural: Buddhism [sherpa] & Hinduism.
Max. Altitude: Shermathang 2693m.
Grade: Moderate
Mountains: Langtang Lirung (7246m), Ganchhenpo
(6388m), and Dorje lakpa (6990m).
Ending point: Melamchipul
Possibility: Camping & tea house both
possible.
Itinerary
Day - 1 Kathmandu - Sundarijal. Sundarijal
trek to Chisapani 8,000 ft. 6 hrs.
Day - 2 Chisapani - Gulbhanjyang 7,000 ft..6 hrs.
Day - 3 Gulbhanjyang - Tharepati 3,597m. 7 hrs.
Day - 4 Tharepati - Tarke Ghyang 8,400ft. 5 hrs.
Day - 5 Tarke Ghyang - Shermathang 8,600ft. 5 hrs.
Day - 6 Shermathang - Melamchipul 2,775ft. 5hrs.
Day - 7 Melamchipul drive to Kathmandu after breakfast.
