Upper Dolpo Trekking
Dolpo area is protected by Shey Phoksundo
National Park of Nepal. It is situated in the mountain region
of Western Nepal covering parts of Dolpo and Mugu Districts.
It is established in 1984, it is the largest national park
in the country with an area of 3555 Sq. km. The route begins
by meandering through pine and cedar forest with views of
the massive Dhaualgiri range in the background. The entrance
to Dolpo lies beyond the Jangla Bhanjyang Pass, (4500m). At
the head of the valley lay snow-capped peaks and the desolate
Tibetan plateau beyond. The main objectives of the park are
to preserve the unique Trans-Himalayan ecosystem, its typical
Tibetan type of flora and fauna, and to protect endangered
species such as the Snow leopard, Blue sheep (only found Shey
Gomba and Dolphu), Goral, Himalayan Tahr, Wolf, Jackal, Himalayan
black Bear, Himalayan Weasel, Himalayan Mouse Hare, yellow-throated
Marten, Langur, Musk Deer and Rhesus Monkeys. As the most
remote and least developed district in Nepal, this trek is
reserved for those with a true sense of adventure. Upper part
of the Dolpo was limitedly open for the tourists only in 1991
and this is very thinly populated but densely vegetated area
full of beautiful Himalayan lakes like Shey- Phoksundo the
most famous one. Special permit will be required for the ten
days trekking.

Start from: Juphal,
16 hrs bus rides to Nepalgunj from Kathmandu & 25 minutes
flight
Cultural: Buddhism & Hinduism.
Max. Altitude: Numa la - 5190 m, baga la
- 5070 m. & Kagamara la - 5114 m.
Grade: Moderate & Difficult.
Mountains: Sishne Himal, Kanjiroba Himal
& Dhaulagiri ranges.
Possibility: Camping only.
Ending point: Juphal, 25 minutes flight to
Nepalgunj from Juphal & a day bus drive to Katmandu.
